Frequently Asked Questions
What is permanent makeup (PMU)?
Permanent Makeup (PMU), also known as cosmetic tattooing or semi-permanent makeup, is the implementation of pigment into the skin using sterilized or single-use needles. Although it is considered “permanent”, results soften over time. PMU eliminates the need for traditional makeup. However, for brow services, clients may still find it necessary to maintain normal grooming, such as waxing, threading, or tweezing hairs outside of the tattooed area.
Benefits:
More youthful appearance
Time saving solution for individuals who are looking to shorten their makeup routine
Solution for those who have been diagnosed with alopecia
No more filling in sparse areas every morning.
Water-proof, sweat-proof makeup look for those who are active and prone to sweating
Long lasting results
Solution for those with allergies to traditional make-up
How long does the appointment take?
The duration of appointments can vary by service and client. However, most initial appointments are about 3 hours long, and most touch-up appointments about 2 hours. On average, only about 1 hour of the initial appointment is spent doing the actual tattoo work. The other portion of the appointment is spent: completing intake paperwork, taking photographs, discussing desired shape, color, and design, and discussing aftercare. An investment of a few hours can lead to you feeling your best for years to come!
How do I make an appointment?
Appointments are currently made by phone only. Interested in scheduling? Feel free to text or call, Mon.-Sat. at 615-933-8535. A non-refundable deposit will be required to book.
What is your cancellation policy?
Out of respect for the artist, please provide no less than 48 hours notice if you need to cancel. Clients may reschedule once. After rescheduling once, the 2nd rescheduled appointment will require a $100 rebooking fee.
For no call no shows, your deposited will be forfeited, and you will be declined from scheduling future services at Bliss Ink & Beauty.
How do you choose which brow technique is best?
When determining the best brow technique, Jasmine will evaluate your skin type, existing brows, and personal preference to determine if microblading, ombre brows, or combination brows are best for you and your lifestyle.
How do you choose a shape?
For eyebrow and lip tattoo services, we choose your shape by first assessing your natural facial structure. To begin, Jasmine will draw the recommended shape, and then you will work together to tweak the shape, according to your preference. Before the actual tattooing begins, measurements will be taken to help ensure symmetry.
Is permanent makeup safe?
Yes, we adhere to strict health requirements, governed by the Metro Nashville Davidson County Health Department. For each procedure, either sterilized or disposable products are used and then immediately sterilized or properly disposed of. When pre and post care instructions are followed, the risk of complications are minimal.

Welcome your new look!
Does it hurt?
We make great efforts to help keep pain level to a minimum and each client as comfortable as possible, during the tattoo process. Some patients may experience slight discomfort, while others may experience none at all. A variety of medical grade anesthetics are used to help keep clients as pain free as possible. We use a topical numbing cream and then, later, a local anesthetic. Most of our clients place the pain level at 1-2, on a scale of 1-10. Be sure to read our guidelines on what to do/not to do before your appointment, as consumption of certain items, such as herbs, alcohol or caffeine, can increase sensitivity and are prohibited. Also, please note, it is recommended to avoid scheduling during or near your menstrual cycle, as this can also increase sensitivity.
After Your Appointment
What is the average healing time?
Permanent makeup is a process, but one that is well worth the wait! On average, following each appointment, it can take up to 4 weeks to see healed results for eyebrow and eyeliner services, and up to 12 weeks to see results for lip blushing and lip neutralization. During the healing process, results may initially darken prior to any scabbing. Once the scabs shed naturally, you will notice the ink in the treated area will be light or invisible. Although the scabs are likely to fall off unevenly, and possibly at different times, you will NOT be able to apply any makeup to camouflage the brows, so, if you plan to be outside of your home during this time, you may want to consider wearing oversized glasses or a hat, as needed. If your brows appear to have little to no ink remaining after the scabs fall, don’t panic; this is normal and is called the “ghosting phase”. During this phase, the body is preparing to produce new skin cells that will bare the healed results. Once ALL scabs have COMPLETELY fallen off both brows (usually by day 14, but sometimes longer), you may proceed with filling the brows in, as needed, until ink resurfaces on the skin.
Some clients retain more ink than others, but you can typically expect your healed results to show around 4 weeks. Avoid working out or sweating for the first 14 days following your appointment. It is recommended to have your touchup around 1-2 months after your initial appointment.
What should I expect immediately after the procedure?
No two patients are the same, so there may be a variance in sensitivity following treatment. In an effort to minimize sensitivity, proper topical anesthetics and numbing will be applied to your treatment area. You may experience very minimal swelling, short-term. Immediately after your procedure, you will want to adhere to recommended aftercare instructions, including, but not limited to, avoiding direct sunlight.
Will it be painful afterwards?
There may be some initial discomfort (more of an “itching” sensation) immediately following your procedure. It is important to adhere to your after care instructions and use the aftercare ointment that will be provided or recommended to you. Use this as directed to keep the treatment area lubricated and aid in the healing process.
Is the follow-up appointment necessary?
A follow-up appointment is HIGHLY recommended to address any issues and increase the likelihood of achieving optimal results. Without the touch up session, your results will not be optimal. Please note the touch-prices are based on time, and, after 8 weeks, the touch-up price increases. To streamline your treatment process, we recommend scheduling your follow-up appointment during or immediately after your initial visit.
Ink retention depends on a variety of factors, including, but not limited to: skin type, presence of any scar tissue, lifestyle, diet, hormones, medical history, and adherence to aftercare instructions. For the majority of individuals, only 1 follow up session is needed. However, some clients may not retain very much ink after their initial session, and, thus, the follow up session becomes one that may require reevaluating client eligibility and technique.
At the touchup visit, we assess the color retention and make any necessary adjustments. Everyone heals differently and at different rates. If your tattoo does not heal perfectly the first time, do not worry! We can always adjust the color, density, (sometimes the shape), and correct any irregularities in any hair strokes during the touch-up session.
How long should I expect the results to last?
Permanent makeup is semi-permanent, and will generally always remain present, to some degree. However, the intensity of your makeup will fade over time, since, unlike a traditional tattoo, PMU pigments do not penetrate all 5 layers of the skin. Darker colors tend to last longer, before a touch-up is needed. On average, it is recommended to have your treatment area refreshened once every 1-3 years, as needed. Longevity of the inked results depends on a variety of factors, such as lifestyle, skin type, medical history, sun exposure, etc.
